How do you solve percentages?

A percentage is solved by transferring a percentage into a decimal or a fraction, or by transferring a decimal or fraction into a percentage. To transfer a percentage into a decimal, divide the percentage by 100. To transfer it into a fraction, multiply the fraction by 100.

1. Decide which way to solve the percentage

   A percentage problem can ask for a fraction or decimal to be turned into a percentage, or it can ask for a percentage to be turned into a fraction or decimal. To solve the problem, first figure out what the problem is asking you to do.

2. Convert decimals and percentages

   To convert a decimal to a percentage, multiply the decimal by 100. This is shown by moving the decimal place two positions to the right. If the problem wants you to convert a percentage into a decimal, then divide the percentage by 100. This is shown by putting a decimal at the end of the percentage, and moving it two positions to the left.

3. Convert fractions and percentages

   To convert a fraction to a percentage, multiply the fraction by 100. To do this, multiply the numerator by 100, then divide the result by the denominator. To convert a percentage to a fraction, divide the percentage by 100.
