What is permanent makeup?

The Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals defines permanent makeup as cosmetic tattooing. In other words, permanent makeup is eyeliner, lip pigmentation and other types of makeup that are applied using tattooing techniques. It is sometimes also called "micropigmentation" or “dermagraphics."
Permanent makeup is especially useful for people who can't wear traditional cosmetics because of allergies and for people who are looking for ways to conceal scars. It can also be used to avoid applying makeup every day.
The makeup is applied using a tattoo coil machine. The machine operates a needle that penetrates the skin, releasing a drop of colored pigment each time it enters the top layers of skin.
