What is a cinereous vulture?

A cinereous vulture is a dark brown bird with a bluish head, neck and bill. It has a wingspan of up to 10 feet and can be more than 3 feet in height.

Cinereous vultures breed in high mountains and large forests. They build a large nest in a tree and lay just one egg. Both the male and the female are involved in incubation of the egg, which lasts 50 to 54 days. Cinereous vultures lay their egg between February and April. The chick stays with the parents for two to three months before leaving. Cinereous vultures are scavengers that feed on large dead mammals, fish and reptiles. They rarely take live prey.
