What do clam worms eat?

Clam worms eat a variety of worms, algae and other intertidal invertebrates. A clam worm uses its proboscis to grab prey and bring it to its mouth.

Clam worms belong to the same family as ragworms and sandworms. They can be found in the northwest Atlantic Ocean and off the coast of South Africa. Clam worms can reach 6 inches in length, but they are usually much smaller. They are a reddish-brown color and have four eyes on their head. A clam worm's body has three segments. Clam worms protect themselves by secreting a mucus that hardens around them. Clam worms die after they release their sperm and eggs in the spring and early summer.
