How do you take a dogs temperature?

You can take a dog's temperature with a rectal thermometer designed for dogs. Insert the lubricated thermometer into the dog's rectum for an accurate temperature reading.

1. Gather the materials

   Gather a rectal thermometer designed for canines and lubricating jelly.

2. Coat the thermometer with lubricant

   Cover the tip of the thermometer with lubricating jelly.

3. Insert the thermometer in the dog's rectum

   Gently insert the tip of the thermometer into the dog's rectum.

4. Read the thermometer

   Remove and read the thermometer when it beeps, if using a battery-operated device, or wait for two minutes, then remove and read a traditional, mercury-filled thermometer. A dog's normal temperature is between 101 and 102.5 degrees Fahrenheit.
