In the book "Peter Pan," Nana is described as a Newfoundland who has been adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Darling to act as a nurse to their children. Nana appears as a Saint Bernard in Disney's 1953 animated movie, "Peter Pan."
Nana has been portrayed in various productions of "Peter Pan" as being either a Saint Bernard or other large dog breed. In theater and live-action movies, the part of Nana has traditionally been played by an actor wearing a dog costume. In the 2014 NBC production of "Peter Pan Live," the role of Nana was played by a large poodle-mix dog named Bodie.
