What do lion cubs eat?

Lion cubs nurse until they are weaned at 6 months old and usually eat their first meat at 3 months of age. Lionesses are generally the hunters of the lion pride and bring the food to the group. Wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, warthogs as well as scavenged meat make up the common diet for lions.
The male lion usually watches the cubs while the lionesses hunt for the pride. The cubs will eat a large kill mostly consisting of medium-size mammals. About 50 percent of a lion's diet is carrion or meat from scavenged animals that have fallen victim to disease or another predator.
