Wellness dog food's brand of Small Breed Adult Healthy Dry Dog Food was recalled in 2012 for moisture contamination. The second recall of 2012 was for Complete Health Super5Mix Large Breed Puppy bags of food, which had the possibility of salmonella. The company does not have any recent recalls.

Wellness pet food has one other recall in its history. It took place in February 2011 and was due to cans of cat food having inadequate levels of vitamin B.

Wellness dog food is considered high-quality food, with claims of containing "human grade ingredients." The company has been sued for the term but won the case. It uses naturally GMO-free ingredients in its wet and dry food, as well as its treats and snacks.
