What is a young hare called?

A young hare is called a leveret, and it is born with a full coat of hair and with open eyes. Leverets leave their birthplace soon after they are born. The mother hare often leaves her young in separate areas to feed and to prevent attacks from predators.
Hares are highly strung by nature, relying on their ability to stay still like a statue to ward off predatory attacks. Because of this defensive trait, even young hares avoid eating in a noisy environment. The mother hare comes back and often feeds her leverets in the early morning or before twilight. This feeding behavior as well as their innate nature acclimatize leverets to stay active between the evening and early dawn.
