Phlash Phelps's real name is Steve Phelps. Phelps has gone by the stage name Phlash since he began working as a radio disk jockey in 1984.

Phelps has worked for at least 17 different radio stations since 1984. Beginning in 2001, Phelps began hosting "Phlash Phelps Phunny Pharm" on Sirius satellite radio, which airs from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday through Friday. Phelps's show focuses on music from the 1960s, featuring mostly top 40 hits from 1965 to 1969.

Although Phelps has been on the radio for more than 30 years, he has rarely acknowledged his birth name and has remained in character throughout the majority of his career.
