Where does most photosynthesis take place?

Most photosynthesis takes place in the leaf of plants in the chloroplasts. The chloroplasts contain a green pigment called chlorophyll that is responsible for absorbing sunlight that hits the leaf.
The primary function of chloroplasts is to take the sunlight absorbed from the chlorophyll and turn it into usable energy, adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP) and NADPH, before storing it for future use. The chloroplasts are also responsible for many secondary functions, such as creating fatty acids and amino acids. Finally, they are also a key component of the plant's immune response. Chloroplasts are only created as a result of cell division.
