Is pineapple a fruit?

The pineapple is a fruit that is a blend of various flowers whose individual fruitlets bind together around an interior core. Pineapples have yellow, brown or green scaly skin, are cylindrical in shape and have a crown of blue-green leaves that are spiny.

The inner fruit of a pineapple has a tart and sweet tropical flavor, while the area closest to the base of the fruit is more tender and sweet and contains more sugar. Believed to have originated in South America, the pineapple was originally discovered by Europeans on an island in the Caribbean named Guadalupe in 1493. Pineapple contains high amounts of manganese and vitamin C as well as many other valuable minerals and nutrients.
