Are pit bulls good dogs?

Pit bulls can make excellent, loyal family pets when trained properly. They are very active and keen to learn and be trained. Aggressive behaviour can be trained out of them.

Pit bulls have a bad reputation due in part to popularized stories in the news. Unfortunately, without the proper training, pit bulls can be aggressive, since they were originally bred to bait large animals by gripping them around the head and neck area. When bull-baiting was outlawed, some owners sought to use their pit bulls to fight one another. However, with the proper attention and training, a pit bull can make a wonderful, calm and loyal family pet.
