A public square complete with sitting areas, trees, the statue of Marianne, a reflective pool, the "Monde & Médias" Pavilion cafe and a fountain are located in the Place de la Republique in Paris. Additionally, a stop on the Paris Metro train lies underneath the square.
The square, one of the largest in the city, borders the 3rd, 10th and 11th districts. In 2013, the firm of TVK redeveloped the square adding more pedestrian space and eliminating the traffic circle. Originally built in 1879 as the result of a competition, the Place de la Republique also serves as the hosting place for cultural and civic events.
