The place that receives the most rainfall in the world is an Indian village called Mawsynram. Located in the region of Meghalaya, India, this village receives an average of 467 inches of rain per year. Most of the rain falls between June and September, during the monsoon season.
The amount of rain is high in this region because the Himalayan mountains block the movement of rain clouds northward into Tibet. Outside of the monsoon season, Mawsynram receives an average 2.36 inches of rain per month. The second rainiest place in the world, called Cherrapunji, is located in the same region and receives 450 inches of rain annually.
