The placement for a Girl Scout patch depends on the Girl Scout's level, type of uniform and type of patch. Every member of Girl Scouts has either a tunic, sash or vest on which to put patches, which are also called insignia. Pins are another type of insignia.

Most Girl Scout levels can choose to wear either a vest or a sash, both of which have different rules for patch placement. This includes a brownie, junior, cadette, senior and adult Girl Scout. Daisy Girl Scouts are the youngest members of Girl Scouts, and they have either a vest or a tunic. Ambassadors wear a sweater, which includes a minimal amount of insignia.
