Plant a calla lily by preparing the container, planting the rhizome, placing the plant in a sunny location, watering the rhizome regularly and fertilizing it. You need a 10-inch diameter pot, potting mix, water and fertilizer.
- Prepare the container
Purchase a 10- or 12-inch pot with drainage holes. Fill half the pot with potting mix made up of soil-less media and pine bark that has a pH between 5.8 and 6.2.
- Plant the rhizome
Place the rhizome on top of the potting mix. If necessary, add more soil first, so that the rhizome is 3 inches from the lip of the pot. Add more potting mix until it is just 1/2 inch from the rim.
- Water the rhizome
Water the lily rhizome immediately after planting until moisture drains from the holes.
- Place the pot in a good location
Place the pot in a location that receives at least six hours of full sunlight a day with a temperature between 55 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Water the calla lily plant
Water the calla lily plant regularly once the top of the soil becomes dry. After the plant blooms, cut back on the moisture.
- Fertilize the plant
Feed the plant with a diluted 5-10-10 soluble fertilizer every three weeks during the growing season.
