How do you plant knockout roses?

To plant knockout roses, select a sunny location that receives at least six hours of sunlight a day. Dig a large hole, wider than the root ball, and insert the plant.
- Determine location
Find a sunny spot that gets six to eight hours of direct sunlight per day. Roses sometimes grow in the shade, but they may not grow as quickly or bloom as much in a shady location.
- Plant bushes
Dig a hole twice the width and depth of the root ball of the knock out rose. Loosen the root ball gently with your hands, and place the plant in the hole. If you want to add amendments like peat moss or composted manure, combine them well with the soil you use to fill the hole. Then, fill the hole with your soil mixture so that when the root ball is covered with soil, the top of the root ball is level with the soil line.
- Water the roses
Water the knockout rose bush well immediately after planting, and water it thoroughly any time the soil is dry 1 inch below the soil. Do not over water the bush, as this can create an imbalance of nutrients in the soil.
- Fertilize
Use a water soluble rose fertilizer once a month according to package instructions.
