When do you prune knockout roses?

The best time to prune knockout roses is during late winter or early spring. The branches are easily visible at this time because the plants is dormant.
Removing the oldest canes stimulates the growth of new flower-producing shoots. Branches that cross each other can be pruned in order to allow more light and air to reach the center of the bush.
After the plant first blooms in early summer, trim off any dead flowers or overgrown canes. This, along with an application of rose fertilizer, encourages more roses to grow. Continue to deadhead the plant throughout the season by removing any dead blossoms.
