How do you play a CD on a computer?

Play a CD on a Windows PC by inserting the CD into the drive and then opening it in Windows Media Center. Windows Media Center comes pre-installed on all PCs running Windows Vista or a later version of the Windows operating system.

  1. Open Windows Media Center

    Click on the Windows Media Center icon on the computer desktop or in the Start menu. If the program is minimized upon opening, click the Maximize button to expand the window.

  2. Insert a CD

    Open the CD drive on the computer. Insert a CD in the drive with the playable side facing down.

  3. Play the CD

    Navigate to the Music menu in Windows Media Player. Click Play to start the CD. Use the other buttons to navigate tracks, set the volume or pause the CD.
