What are Pokémon EX cards?

Pokémon EX cards are cards used in the Pokémon trading card game that feature a stronger variant of the Pokémon they represent. They were originally introduced in the expansion set for the Pokémon TCG called Next Destinies.

The Pokémon that are featured on Pokémon EX cards typically have more hit points and stronger attacks than their counterparts, but their downside is that the opponent who manages to defeat a Pokémon EX card gets to take two prize cards instead of one. All Pokémon EX cards feature a stylized EX graphic next to the card name, while the artwork depicting the Pokémon breaks the boundaries of the illustration.
