Polycarbonate plastic is made from a reaction between bisphenol A, a chemical building block, and the chemical phosgene. Polycarbonate plastic offers several benefits in manufacturing, including its shatter- and heat-resistance.

Polycarbonate plastic is used to manufacture CDs and other media, medical equipment, safety devices for sports and food containers. It is also used to produce tableware, as low exposure to bisphenol A, or BPA, has not been shown to cause a significant health risk.

In fact, researchers have demonstrated that polycarbonate plastic is safe for the manufacturing of baby bottles. It is an inexpensive, clear plastic with numerous applications and low maintenance requirements.
