Where do pomegranates grow best?

Pomegranates grow best in fairly dry climates with cool winters and hot summers. In the United States, pomegranates are mainly grown in California and Arizona.
Humidity can hurt the formation of pomegranate fruits, and the trees thrive in dry conditions. Pomegranate trees can be severely damaged in temperatures below 12 degrees Fahrenheit, which is why they are not grown in much of the eastern United States. They grow best in full sun and should be placed in the warmest spot in the yard.
Pomegranates originate from ancient Iran, where they spread to the entire Mediterranean area, and they were eventually brought to California by Spanish settlers.
