Does popcorn contain starch?

Popcorn is made up of three primary structures, which include the endosperm, containing soft and hard starch granules, the germ and the pericarp. The starch serves as the energy source for the germ, also known as the embryo or the living part of the popcorn kernel.

Popcorn is a cereal grain maize product obtained from a wild grass. When heated, the popcorn expands from the kernel and puffs up. It is the only type of corn that pops due to its tough moisture-sealed hull called the pericarp and the popcorn's dense starchy interior.

Popcorn is consumed as a nutritional snack. Air-popped popcorn is rich in dietary fiber and antioxidants.
