ESPN, Fox News and TBS are among the most popular satellite TV channels. Featuring most major sports, but specifically the NFL, ESPN has consistently been the top-rated station. Fox News outpaces other news networks by a large margin. In 2015, its closest competitor, CNN, was ranked 22.

TBS, USA, TNT, AMC and FX lead the ratings in non-sports or news networks. Each features original programming including scripted dramas and comedies, reality TV and talk shows. Nickelodeon and Adult Swim are the most popular channels offering animated or children's television. Discovery, HGTV and the History Channel draw the most viewers for channels specializing in educational or informational programs.
