Portrait orientation refers to the view of a document, slide, worksheet or image that is taller than it is wide. The term comes from portrait photography.
When creating personal and professional documents in word processing, spreadsheet or presentation software programs, users choose between portrait orientation and landscape orientation. Portrait orientation is popular for letter writing, for legal work and for drafting information for public information displays. This orientation is also the easiest to translate into mobile device applications for blog writers and website creators. Users set the orientation of their document in the Page Layout tab of Microsoft Word 2013.
