Is it possible to improve your glomerular filtration rate?

It is not possible to raise one's glomerular filtration rate, or GFR, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. However, there are several things a person can do to prevent it from dropping lower, such as keeping blood pressure in a safe range.
Glomerular filtration rate refers to how well a person's kidneys are filtering, states the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. A score of 60 or above is normal. A score lower than that may indicate kidney disease, and a score lower than 15 indicates kidney failure. To keep the GFR from falling, a person should keep her cholesterol within a safe range and avoid eating too much salt.
