The postage stamp rate was 37 cents for the first ounce of mail from June 30, 2002, until Jan. 7, 2006. The stamp featured either a flag or antique toy on it when it was 37 cents.
Prior to stamps being 37 cents they cost 34 cents. Stamps were 34 cents from Jan. 7, 2001, to June 30, 2002. The lowest fee ever charged for a stamp was just 2 cents. Stamps cost 2 cents from 1885 to 1917 and again in 1919. The price of a postage stamp was only lowered one time, from 1918 to 1919. On Jan. 26, 2014, the cost of a stamp increased to 49 cents.
