Of the five eye lubrication products under the Refresh brand, the "Refresh Optive® Advanced" eye drops are the most powerful, according to the manufacturer, Allergan, Inc. While the runner-up, "Refresh Optive®," contains two active eye lubricant ingredients, "Advanced Triple Action" contains three.

The base eye-lubrication ingredient in Refresh day-use products is carboxymethylcellulose sodium. "Advanced Triple Action" also contains glycerin and polysorbate. As noted by Allergan, Inc., this ingredient combination affects the oil layer, the water layer and the mucin layer of the tear film. These three ingredients lubricate the surface of the eye, hydrate its cells and inhibit tear evaporation.
