What is the Prayer to Archangel Michael?

The prayer to St. Michael the Archangel is a request for help in defending the faith of the Catholic Church. Catholic tradition holds that Pope Leo XIII composed the prayer in the 19th century after he was shown a vision of the devil wreaking havoc on the Catholic Church.

As of 2014, Catholics pray to St. Michael as follows: "St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen."
