When was President Obama born?

President Barack Hussein Obama was born on Aug. 4, 1961 in Kapiolani Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. His mother was Stanley Ann Dunham, and his father was a Kenyan national, Barack Obama, Sr.

Obama's parents met in Hawaii when they were students at the University of Hawaii. When Ms. Dunham became pregnant with the future president, Obama Sr. married her on Feb. 2, 1961 despite still having at least one and possibly as many as three other wives in Kenya. They were later divorced, and Dunham raised the young Barack Obama on her own with the help of her parents, who both lived and worked in Hawaii. She later married an Indonesian, Lolo Soetoro, and moved with the 6-year-old Obama to Jakarta, Indonesia.
