Valerie Jarrett was born in Shiraz, Iran, in 1956. However, neither she nor her parents are Iranian, nor is there any evidence to indicate that they are Muslims.
Jarrett's father, an American-born U.S. citizen, worked as the chair of pathology at Nemazee Hospital in Shiraz for six years in the late 1950s and early 1960s. When Valerie Jarrett was 5 years old, her parents returned to the United States, and they have not visited Iran since. Jarrett accepted the job of White House Senior Advisor on Jan. 20, 2009, at the beginning of the Obama administration. As of 2015, she holds the position of Senior Advisor to the President of the United States.
