Nancy Reagan, wife of President Ronald Reagan, hired professional astrologer Joan Quigley as an advisor during her husband's two presidential terms. Though Quigley seems to have had some influence on official matters, such as the time and date of important presidential meetings, the Reagans kept her employment a secret.
During her time as an advisor to the Reagans, Quigley was kept on a $3,000 monthly retainer, a significant sum for the 1980s. Quigley had private phone lines that connected to official presidential residences, including the White House, and had influence over matters such as when Air Force One could take off.
