How do you print on burlap?

You can print on burlap with an inkjet printer, as long as the burlap piece is stabilized and cut to size first. Grab some freezer paper, an iron, a pair of scissors and a printer to complete this project.
- Iron the burlap flat
The burlap needs to be flat and smooth, so take a dry iron to it over medium heat. Press until the burlap is no longer wrinkled.
- Stabilize the burlap with freezer paper
Cut a piece of freezer paper about 2 inches larger than the burlap on all sides. Position the burlap on the shiny side of the freezer paper. Using a dry iron on medium heat, iron the burlap to the freezer paper. It only takes seconds for the burlap to stick.
- Cut the burlap to paper size
For most home printers, cut the paper-backed burlap to 8.5 inches by 11 inches. If working on a larger piece, home printers can usually handle legal-size paper at 8.5 inches by 14 inches.
- Create a design in a word-processing or photo-editing program
Create a design in a word-processing program, such as Microsoft Word, or a photo-editing program, such as Adobe Photoshop. Size the image according to program directions.
- Feed the burlap through the printer
Load the stabilized burlap sheet into the printer's specialty paper feeder, and print as usual. Peel the burlap away from the freezer paper.
