The most prominent person to proclaim himself the Muslim messiah, or savior, was Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. Although most Muslims do not recognize his claims, he founded the Ahmadiyya sect of Islam.
Many non-Muslims think that Muhammed was the Muslim savior, but most Muslims believe he was simply the final prophet sent by Allah. Most Muslims believe that Jesus was also a prophet, or that he was the savior of the Jewish people. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad claimed to be a divine guide sent by Allah to end religious conflict and bring about a new era of peace. He also claimed that he was the metaphorical second coming of Jesus. He founded the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in 1889.
