While there have been several Muslim Marvel comics characters over the years, Kamala Khan, who was announced as the new Ms. Marvel in 2014, may be one of the most famous in the real world and most significant within the Marvel Universe. Khan is portrayed as a 16-year-old Muslim girl.

A New Jersey resident, the fictional Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, is described as a second-generation American of Pakistani descent. She is the first Muslim Marvel character to get a solo title. The comics' script writer, G. Willow Wilson, stated in an interview that she wanted to give Khan a well-rounded personality and avoid portraying an American Muslim in a stereotypical manner.
