What products treat dog lice?

A variety of medications, including imidacloprid (Advantage) and selamectin (Revolution), can treat dog lice. Both products also treat fleas, ticks and other parasitic insect species.

Other products, such as flea shampoos for dogs that contain pyrethrins or organophosphates, can help kill lice. Dog lice is easy to diagnose. Lice and their eggs are visible on a dog's hair. The eggs are white and attach to the dog's hair shaft. The adult lice are small, flat bugs with six legs. Each species of lice is specific to dogs. Although dog lice may be seen on humans or other pets, they don't cause an infestation.
