Some programs that offer free eyeglasses are Sight for Students and New Eyes for the Needy. Sight for Students provides free exams and eyeglasses to children and teens under 18 years of age that are uninsured and come from low-income families.

New Eyes for the Needy is for people of different ages who can't afford their own prescription eyeglasses. There are also government programs for free eye exams and eyeglasses, including Medicare, which provides low-cost resources for people with diabetes, glaucoma and other eye conditions. For children in low-income families, there is the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) that provides eye exams and glasses that are free or low cost.
