What is project management?

Project management is the process of initiating, overseeing and finalizing every aspect of a project. The phrase is most often used in a business or government context, referring to the management of a specific set of production activities.

A project is any group of activities within a given scope, undertaken to achieve a specific purpose. For example, a project manager may oversee the publication of a book, the repair of a street or a specific client account. Aside from business projects, it could also refer to projects undertaken by groups of students for educational purposes. In any context, the project manager is responsible for spearheading the entire set of activities from its inception to completion.
