Does a prolapsed bladder require surgery?

Prolapsed bladder surgery is reserved for severe cases of bladder prolapse that don't respond to other treatments, states WebMD. Nonsurgical treatments include the use of a pessary, which is a device placed inside the vagina to hold the bladder in place, and estrogen replacement therapy, which helps strengthen vaginal muscles.
Mild prolapsed bladders that cause no discomfort or pain often require no treatment at all, notes WebMD. A doctor often simply advises the patient to avoid straining or heavy lifting in this instance. Kegel exercises, which strengthen pelvic floor muscles, help to treat moderate bladder prolapses and are often recommended as a supplement to other treatments.
