Are propane refrigerators safe to repair on your own?
By Forinfos - 17/05/2026 - 0 comments
It is not safe for a non-professional to repair a propane refrigerator. Professional repair is the safest option for gas appliances due to the risk of gas leaks, carbon monoxide poisoning and explosion. In some localities, it is illegal for anyone but a licensed professional to repair propane appliances.
Propane refrigerators use ammonia as a coolant, and amateur repairs run the risk of a coolant leak. The concentrated ammonia used as a refrigerant is toxic and corrosive even in small quantities, and burns the eyes, lungs and skin. Ammonia is also flammable, and adds to the fire and explosion hazards of propane.
