Aside from diabetes, conditions such as heart disease, kidney infection, and high blood pressure allow proteins to pass through the kidney's filters into the urine. Other symptoms, including frequent hunger, blurred vision, frequent urination and increased thirst, indicate that the cause may be diabetes.
