Where are proteins made in a cell?

In a cell, proteins are made in the cell's ribosomes. Ribosomes string together long chains of amino acids to synthesize proteins. The mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid), tRNA (transfer ribonucleic acid) and the amino acids work together to form proteins.

The mRNA is made in the cell's nucleus. It combines with sub-units of the ribosomes. The tRNA binds with the amino acids spread throughout the cell. The mRNA provides the instructions to create the amino acids, and the tRNA performs the required transferring. A ribosome binds to a tRNA molecule and removes one amino acid. The ribosome continues this process until an amino acid chain is created.
