What are proxy settings?

Proxy settings are the IP address and port number of the proxy a user has her computer connected to. A proxy is a hub that serves as an intermediate between a computer and the Internet.
When a user connected to a proxy has her computer make a request, the computer sends the request to the proxy. The proxy makes the request from the website, then returns the desired information. This means that the site registers the proxy IP address and not the user's IP address, providing her with more privacy. She can also use the proxy to filter web content, as well as screen uploads and downloads.
