What is a PTAC unit?

A Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner unit, or PTAC unit, is a self-contained device that provides heat and cool air in commercial locations. With a standard size of 42 inches wide, each PTAC must be installed with a surrounding sleeve and an external grill.
PTACs provide heat either with a heat pump or a separate electric heating element. Heat pump units are usually the more energy efficient of the two. However, heat pump models are effective only in mild climates that stay below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, PTACs that include an electric heating element run more quietly than those that use a heat pump.
