Where is the pubis symphysis located?

The pubis symphysis is between the right and left pubic bones. This secondary cartilaginous joint is in front of the urinary bladder, above the external genitalia, in both women and men, and it unites the right and left pubic bone superior rami.

The pubis symphysis helps to maintain mechanical integrity, or capability of movement, of the pelvic region by connecting the ligaments in this area. It also helps to transfer weight to the hips from the sacrum. The primary motions include compression, separation and an inferior and superior glide. It makes it possible for a woman to deliver a baby and it absorbs shock when someone is walking.
