The Bismarck Public School District is located in Bismarck, the capital city of North Dakota. As of 2015, the Hughes Education Center is located on 806 North Washington Street in Bismarck. The school district is the largest in the state, boasting a total of 12,003 students and 1,835 staff members.
Centrally located within the state, the district has been in business since 1873. The oldest building in the Bismarck Public School District is a part of Bismarck High School, and was built in 1934. During the 2013-2014 school year, the average classroom size for kindergarten through fifth grade was 20 children. The dropout rate for the 2013-2014 school year was 1.2% for a total of 37 students.
