As of 2014, there is not a comprehensive public record of 9-1-1 calls. States' rules differ concerning 9-1-1 calls. These calls are confidential in Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Wyoming. Connecticut, Georgia, Maine, Minnesota, North Carolina and South Dakota place some restrictions on the release of 9-1-1 calls.
Generally, 9-1-1 calls are not released to the public unless required by a court order. In Florida, 9-1-1 calls can be broadcast provided that all of the identifying information is removed. In Alaska, the calls cannot be broadcast but the transcript may be read and transcribed. Connecticut makes 9-1-1 recordings available online. In Indiana, the prosecutor can withhold recordings if the recordings pertain to crime investigations.
