What is PunkBuster?

PunkBuster is a computer program designed by Even Balance, Inc. that is used to prevent online game players from cheating. PunkBuster uses a built-in database to scan the memory of local machines in real-time, making sure that cheating and hacking software isn't being used.

Status reports are sent to the PunkBuster servers throughout the game. If a violation is found, the offending player is removed and all other players are notified. When a player is found cheating, the PunkBuster administrators can manually remove him permanently or temporarily. PunkBuster can be integrated only in certain online games, and it's provided free of charge to the player.
