Retailers are prohibited from selling lawn darts in the United States. On Dec. 19, 1988, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, or CPSC, banned the sale of lawn darts to all consumers.
Prior to their ban in 1988, lawn darts were typically sold in packages of eight darts, consisting of two different colors and two targets. These darts were approximately 12 inches long and weighted via a metal tip. Following the death of at least three children, lawn darts were banned by the CPSC. To prevent injury, numerous warnings have been issued by the CPSC advising consumers to destroy all lawn darts.
